14 ROAD-RAIL ROBOT VLEX THE FLEXIBLE ONE FAST TRACK CHANGE IN CONFINED SPACE With the road-rail robot VLEX, Vollert offers an op- timal solution for the light shunting operation up to 600 t. The compact and manoeuvrable VLEX 20 and the robust VLEX 40 can be used for the move- ment of freight wagons or in tram and underground depots in many ways. Switching from track to road can be done quickly and easily by radio remote control – or directly to the power outlet. And all this completely emission-free as the road-rail so- lution has a battery-powered electric drive. The shunting of wagons is thus also possible in closed storage and production areas. Track guide rollers are hydraulically lowered for rail travel. The hydraulic system ensures that the track guide units automatically readjust and com- pensate for each other. The steering can be hy- draulically locked for the necessary stability on the rail. Solid rubber tires ensure optimum trac- tion, additionally supported by the high dead weight of 4.5 t (for the VLEX20) or 10 t (for the VLEX40).
