11 WEIHAI, CHINA In Weihai, in the North-East of the Shandong province, Weihai Haixin New Material is pro- ducing up to 2,300-mm-wide aluminium foils, rolled to strip thicknesses of up to 0.005 mm in one of China’s most state-of-the-art aluminium plants. Vollert installed an integral intralogis- tics concept for optimal networking of all rolling mill processes with the transport and interim storage areas. The core is the 265-m-long and 30-m-tall high-bay warehouse. Equipped with an active cooling system, it stores up to 1,000 aluminium coils at any one time. Tunnel shuttles and various coil transfer cars feed the coils weighing 32 t to the rolling mill areas and the annealing/finishing lines.
