9 XIASHUN, CHINA The aluminium films of Chinese manufacturer Xiamen Xiashun Aluminium Foil may be ultra- thin, but they still weigh about 17 t per coil. In the harbor town of Xiamen, about 500 km east of Hong Kong, Xiashun built one of Asia’s most state-of-the-art aluminium rolling mills, com- prising the entire process chain from the alu- minium smelter to the finished product. Intra- logistics and conveyor technology are delivered by Vollert. Tunnel shuttles and various coil transfer cars (CTC) ensure fully automatic net- working between the different rolling mill ar- eas and guarantee smooth flows in production 24/7. The rolling mills are fed fully automati- cally by four coil manipulators.
